A question... actually two.

Where has everyone been?

Without regular folks in the room, it's really lonely there. I look through the logs and I see where some of you drop in, sit for 30 seconds and leave. I understand it's not much fun to be there by yourself, but what you missed was those 3 other folks that did the same thing right after you left. Yeah, the times are exaggerated, but I think you get the idea.

Honestly, our influx of new people has been cut off, since we only get a few curious users from time to time. I've watched the registration go from 4-6 a day to about 3 a week. Most of our regular supply of new users are stopping off elsewhere before they get here.

Now, I'm at a loss as a plan to keep new folks wandering into the room. I suppose I could kick off the advertising campaign again, but I'm not sure that's really going to work. I never really saw a lot of difference in registration while I was advertising, and I figure that has to do with my advertising budget.

Finally, the Lounge is YOU. It's not the Jim Pankey/Wild Jimbo show. You're the ones that have generously funded the Lounge. But without you here, those that have donated, it's tough to keep any momentum.

A few months ago there was talk of merger/combination/whatever with the BHO regarding the chat, but you, the supporters, wanted to keep the Lounge separate. So I did.

So, for my second question... What do you, the supporters, want now?

I think we have a bit of a conundrum here for sure our regular clientel do not frequent the lounge as often as previous, theres a hard core of people who support chat/voice either at the BHO or the Lounge or both but here's the conundrum if we at the Lounge don't get back our regular support then financialy it will ultimatly fail, but why should folks pay when BHO is free? but remember this the BHO chat is currently in Beta format Eric may well close it or want to charge for it now if in the mean time the lounge as failed through lack of financial support there could be no where for anyone to go also the Lounge does have some longevity, in various forms it's been going for three years or so, the BHO chat as yet to stand the test of time, so as bitter as the pill may be i think it's time to take sides it's either the Lounge or the BHO i don't think the current community will support two chats over a period of time..............and for me the Lounge as it hands down i did'nt want a contest but i am a realist

I have been invited to the hangout chat by many, including moderators. I'm sure no ill is intended for the lounge by them doing so. However, I only went once for more than a minute of two. The first experience was that porn pics on the whitebard ran me off. The second was ok and I played a bit and met some nice pickers.
That happens CONSTANLY (or it did) each time in the lounge. I have not been back to the hangout chat. I am not a trend follower (big surprise huh?) and further do not wish to have a 'bandwagon' idea squash a trailblazer idea. If that happens, I probably will just say, "it was great, now it's gone" and do something else entirely.
I resent the general copycat-muscleman approach the hangout has assumed in regards to the lounge. I do not trust their hastiness and the results of that process in choosing some of their mods.
I'd like to see the lounge hang in there until the hangout 'honeymoon' is over and they get to bickering about themselves instead of about hangout vs lounge.
Sorry if you feel like it's the Jimbo show Jim...I pulled close to a year with a lot of that in the lounge. I'll try to be around more often and add some more 'off chords' to the atmosphere. lol
summary: the hangout mold isn't even set yet. Can we give it time to shake out? I've seen 25/30 in there a lot. They aren't all pickin. There's gonna be a peckin order set up and then look out.

Ray... good to see your post.

"...why should folks pay when BHO is free?"

Yeah, I've asked that a lot. I still think that even though we depend on donations to keep us running we have the advantage of NOT being the Hangout. We're separate, safe, and a sanctuary to many.

Like I say on the login page, "Don't forget folks, this chat runs on your donations - because of that we stay very free from various restraints and obligations that come into play once we're beholden to advertisers."

But at this point it boils down to this... the lounge is my "home" on the web. Once it's gone, I'm not sure where my "home" will be.
